Product Highlights

Product Description

Shimano Stradic gets updated for 2023. The new Shimano Stradic FM Spinning Reel takes what is considered by most to be the best mid-tier spinning reel series on the market and improves it. Shimano is always making incremental steps to improve the drive train. They want the reel to be smoother both when it is under heavy load as well as minimum load. The addition of their InifityDrive system does just that. The Stradic FM incorporates Shimano's InfinityXross technology from the Stella which is a solid gearing upgrade. They've improved the way water moves through the reel to keep it way from the important components. Shimano Stradic FM Spinning Reels feature seven ball bearings, a great handle and an improved line roller. The Stradic is just one of those reels you should own. Buy a Shimano Stradic FM Spinning Reel and you will be a happy angler for the next decade.

Shimano Stradic FM Spinning Reels are available in five sizes from a 1000-5000. The Stradic FM colorway is silver and blue. Whether you choose the Stradic 1000, 2500, 3000, 4000 or 5000 model you will absolutely love it!

Models: ST1000HGFM, ST2500HGFM, ST3000HGFM, ST4000XGFM, ST5000XGFM

Shimano Stradic FM Spinning Reels 4000

Built With Purpose

What Makes The Stradic FM Tick?

Shimano updated the Stradic FM with a smoother, stronger drive train and technology borrowed from their higher-end reels. InfinityXross and InfinityDrive help the reel feel refined under load, while the Hagane body keeps the reel solid without making it feel bulky.

What Is This Reel Best At?

The Stradic 4000 is built for anglers who want a versatile saltwater reel for heavier inshore fishing, light surf, jetties, and inlets.

Topwater Lures
Fishing surface plugs and lures that create strikes on top of the water.
Surfcasting
Casting from beaches, jetties, or shoreline structure into open saltwater.
Jigging
Working vertical or casted jigs through the water column to trigger aggressive strikes.
Live Bait
Fishing natural live bait for a more realistic presentation and better hookup opportunities.
Sub-Surface Lures
Fishing swimming plugs, soft plastics, and other lures below the surface.

What Does It Feel Like to Fish With?

This is the part you don’t get from a spec chart — how the reel actually feels in your hand and on the water.

Smoothness

Very smooth on the retrieve with the refined feel anglers expect from the Stradic series.

Weight Feel

Still comfortable to cast repeatedly, but with more substance and power than the smaller sizes.

Balance

Balances well with medium to medium-heavy inshore rods and lighter surf rods around 7’6” to 9’.

Drag Feel

Smooth startup drag with consistent pressure when a fish surges or changes direction.

Casting Feel

Casts cleanly and comfortably, especially when paired with the right rod and braid.

Cranking Power

Plenty of power for larger inshore species, bucktails, plugs, and fishing around current or structure.

J&H Staff Take
““The Stradic 4000 is easy to recommend because it gives anglers a smooth, refined reel in a size that fits real-world fishing.””

How Durable Is the Stradic 5000?

A strong choice for regular saltwater use, light surf, jetties, inlets, and inshore fishing when properly maintained.
✅ Excellent for regular saltwater use when properly rinsed and maintained.
✅ Moderately sealed saltwater reel
⚠️ Not the best fit for anglers who constantly dunk reels, throw very heavy surf plugs, or need maximum sealing above all else.
If you need maximum sealing, constant dunking protection, or heavy-duty surf abuse above all else, step up to a Saragosa-style reel.
WHY WE RECOMMEND IT

The Stradic 4000 is a very versatile saltwater size for anglers who want power and line capacity without jumping to a heavier reel.

👥
Ideal for: Anglers fishing heavier inshore setups, light surf, jetties, inlets, and larger saltwater species with plugs, jigs, and bait.

What size braid should I use on the Stradic 4000? +

Most anglers should spool the Stradic 4000 with 15–30 lb braid, with heavier braid useful around structure or larger fish.

Can the Stradic 4000 handle striped bass? +
